Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom’s aerial warfare force. The RAF describes its mission statement as “to provide an agileadaptable and capable Air Force that, person for person, is second to none, and that makes a decisive air power contribution in support of the UK Defence Mission”. The RAF has 832 aircraft and 32,940 Active personnel.

An airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) system is an airborne radar picket system designed to detect aircraft, ships and vehicles at long ranges and perform command and control of the battlespace in an air engagement by directing fighter and attack aircraft strikes. AEW&C units are also used to carry out surveillance.
